Rikhard residential complex
The recently constructed area in Khoroshevo neighbourhood is located amidst very differing urban zones. On one hand, it offers excellent access to the public transport network, together with well-developed social, cultural, commercial, and sports infrastructure (the area has 3 malls, an ice rink, a stadium, a park in Khodynka etc.). Large part of the site on the east presents a protected natural territory, which is to be preserved and turned into a landscape park. On the other hand, however, the area is surrounded by sheds, warehouses and a power plant, together with the neighbouring residential complex which already occupies several height levels obstructing perspective views. Nonetheless, architecture by ATRIUM gains complexity and character the more obstacles it encounters.

Both buildings of the complex are designed as a composition of masses and voids reacting with each other at various angles and levels, as well as enriching the visual diversity of the facades. Moreover, such massing provides a strategic approach towards designating views from the apartments. For instance, in the first building, the two perpendicular towers have their big-area flats facing away from the nearby power plant. Instead, placed there, are the elevator-shaft and the staircase. The facades on other faces, however, are broken into multiple openings expressed in consols of glass and plastic. Elevated above the ground level with columns, the building offers extra space for landscaping and recreation beneath.
The second building hugs the courtyard with playgrounds placed exactly on the green grassy surface of the underground parking lot. The lower 8 floor tall mass facing Zorge st. harmoniously integrates the complex into the surrounding soviet mid-rise architecture. The upper levels of the complex, however, are expressed in more of a dynamic and contemporary fashion with the curvilinear arch highlighting the main entrance and its grand atrium.
Another specific design strategy was applied to the choice of facade materials, which was based not only upon aesthetic, but also financial considerations, placing more affordable finishings on the higher levels of the towers and more expensive ones closer to the ground floor. These finishings include clinker brick, concrete blockwork, composite aluminium panels, fibre concrete, and fibre cement panels.
