- The book ATRIUM Vocabulary. The Vocabulary of Architecture
For its 30th anniversary, ATRIUM Architectural Studio organised the research exhibition Vocabulary of Contemporary Architecture at the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture. The exhibition is structured around 25 key concepts and terms that describe current architectural approaches and ideas, directly influencing the work of architects today and shaping the image of contemporary architecture, including architecture on a global scale.
The exhibition was curated by the ATRIUM team, which approaches architecture as the art of creating spatial environments, as well as a multi-layered and complex field of practice.
“For us, the meaning of architecture lies in creating the present through the definition of the future,” comments Anton Nadtochiy, co-founder of ATRIUM. “Together with our architects, clients and users, we discuss the processes, properties and qualities of the contemporary world in order to express them through our projects. Over 30 years, this approach has led to the creation of our own vocabulary, reflecting both individual architectural ideas and a broader field of interconnected meanings. In this anniversary year, we want to present 25 terms that we consider relevant to contemporary architectural and philosophical discourse. We believe this ‘vocabulary’ will help people better understand not only our projects, but also the global tendencies within which it has developed, and will bring more minds into the discussion and creation of the future.”
